Sugar Camp Ranch offers Western Horsemanship Lessons for beginner to intermediate riders. Our emphasis is always safety first for both the horse and rider. Lessons offer a focus for pleasure/trail riding, ranch patterns, trail obstacles, ranch work, western games. Our program is organized for students and their families to see their growth and goals via our Ribbon Achievement system.
Little Buckaroo Lessons $35
Ages 3-7 years old
30 minute session include:
-Horse Safety
-Grooming
-Leading/Groundwork
-Mounted Instruction (walk/trot, control, reining, obstacles)
If child shows an eagerness and ability to learn/ride for a longer duration we will consider moving to a full hour session as is listed below.
Western Horsemanship Lesson $55
Ages 7 years +
60 minute sessions include:
-Horse Safety
-Catching
-Grooming
-Leading/Groundwork
-Tacking
-Mounted instruction (control, transitions, reining, obstacles, ranch patterns)
-Untacking
-Post Ride Grooming/Bathing
Trail Experience Lesson
Requires Blue Ribbon Level experience and higher.
Group Rides are lead by instructor and at least one assistant instructor depending on size.
We firmly believe that the unpredictability of what can be encountered on the trails makes the best riders but only riders who can safely navigate differences in terrain, water crossings, walk/trot/lope, and use good horse sense are eligible for the trail experiences.

Homeschool Group Classes
These classes are organized to walk introductory level students of all grades through horse safety, anatomy, differences in riding styles, tack, herd dynamics, and mounted instruction. Classes are broken into groups of 2-4 students per horse and instructor, multiple groups can be scheduled to accommodate larger classes. These classes are designed to educate and teach the most basic skills, students who show a deep interest in horsemanship and riding are encouraged to continue to build their skills through individual lessons,
-1 Hour Homeschool Class: $30/Student
-90 Minute Homeschool Class: $35/Student
*All students under the age of 18 must wear an equestrian riding helmet which we will provide if needed.
*Riders should disclose any injury or physical limitations at the time of scheduling. Horseback Riding is a physical sport that requires balance, body awareness, coordination, and strength.
*For the safety of our horses riders must weigh less than 250lbs.
*For the safety of both riders and horses lessons will be cancelled/rescheduled in cases of intense weather such as storms, excessive wind, temperatures exceeding the safety range according to the equine heat index or below freezing.
