Introduction to Horsemanship:
Levels 1 and 2
CAMP FULL see you in 2020!

Campers, with limited horse experience and those timid on or around horses, will receive classroom type lessons, demonstration, hands-on learning and Western mounted instruction.

Our focus for their camp experience is first and foremost learning to safely interact and respond to the actions of these gentle giants.

Ages 7-15 years old
Tuition : $200 single camper
$170 additional siblings

Introductory to Horsemanship Level 1

Level 1 Campers will leave with a fundamental knowledge of the basics of horse husbandry, breeds/history, preventative maintenance, anatomy, parts of the saddle/bridle, how to safely lead/load/and tie the horse, grooming/bathing, mounting/dismounting, proper posture in the saddle (hand/leg/foot position), balance, control/reining, and emergency dismount technique.

Level 1 Campers will begin with Lead-Line Instruction until they can demonstrate that they are capable of maintaining control and balance while listening to verbal instruction. Campers can then progress to Off-Lead Instruction in our round pens at a walk speed.

Introduction to Horsemanship Level 2

Level 2 Campers will build upon their fundamental knowledge of horse safety, husbandry, veterinary care, preventative maintenance, anatomy, ability to tack the horse, lessons on ground work/lunging, as well as an introduction to driving horses (draft and miniature).

Level 2 Campers will be selected based on a skills and abilities assessment on the first day of camp. These campers are expected to have the ability to safely lead, tie, groom, saddle, mount and dismount with little instruction. They will also ride with a gentle hand, controlled and with good balance at a walk and trot speed. These campers will begin the week working within the round pens and will progress to our open training areas where they will have the opportunity to practice rodeo patterns and work through obstacles.

Level 2 Campers who show continual growth and excellent listening skills throughout the week will also have an opportunity to accompany our Instructors on a trail ride.
